Three servicemen from Malawi and three from Southern Africa, members of the regional force for world peace, were killed during a clash with rebels in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This was announced by the official representative of the Malawi army, Immanuel Milimba. Milimba noted: "We confirm the death of three of our brave soldiers who served in the composition of the South African Development Community's armed forces in the DRC."
The attack occurred as the fighters from the 'M23' movement advanced over the past several days. Fighting between the Congolese army and rebels occurs primarily within 20 kilometers of the regional capital Goma, where about a million people live, including no less than three thousand refugees.
